The crystal clear water of Morjim beach is a swimmer's delight.

Originally Morjim is the name derived from Goddess “morzai”. According to ancient mythology it is believed that the goddess morzai sprang from the sea and was fished out by fishermen (morjey). While some believe she came on a peacock (“mhor” in local Konkani language) and hence the name Mhor-jim (Morjim).

It is also believed that half of Morjim, few decades ago was submerged by the sea, until a holy person name Satpurush saved the natural surroundings of Morjim waters and converted it into land. Hence if one digs the earth, deep enough, one can in fact find the silvery sand of the beach till around a depth of 2metres deep. To show their respect villagers of Morjim build the Satpurush temple which still exists.
