This Harbour is laid far in a creek, well protected from the waves of the open sea. Against the modern quay and further out in the creek, modern fishing boats are moored and anchored together with simple dugouts and small wooden boats. Within a stone's throw from the dockside, on the beach, large amounts of fishing boats have been pulled up to be repaired, stripped or deserted. A long strip, which terminates at the mouth of river Chapora, is marked by extensive rows of sand dunes with dune vegetation being more pronounced in the southern part. Morjim Beach
Morjim beach is positioned in Pernem district, north Goa. It is the southernmost beach in an uninterrupted series of beaches on the coast from Chapora River to Terekhol River, approx. 13km in total. Morjim beach is about 3,5km long. The beach stretches from the Chapora river bank to a large rock on the beach, this is where Morjim beach ends and Ashvem beach begins. A shvem Beach
If you love long stretches of silvery sandy beach then Ashvem beach is for you. As far as the eye can see, the beautiful Ashvem beach continues to linger on with a few thatched huts and beach shacks strewn along. Ashvem beach waters are safe for swimming and also less crowded than other beaches. Ashvem beach is a continuation of the long Morjim beach. This beach has some tree houses worth to have a look. Chapora River
The Chapora River originates from a small village in Maharashtra called Hajgoli near Belgaum and then it flows through the Tilari Ghat and enters Goa. It divides North Goa districts Pernem and Bardez. The river flows into Arabian Sea of Indian Ocean: at the estuary to the south is situated popular tourist destination Vaga tor Beach, to the north is the village Morjim. There are boating facilities on the river and one can have a relaxing day cruise in the backwaters of the River Chapora. The approach to River Chapora is not very far from Morjim Hermitage.
Bird Watching at Morjim
Morjim is home to a few thousand Seagulls. Flocks and flocks of Seagulls chill out on the shores and on a mudflat a couple of kilometres into the ocean. You can rent a boat and get real close to the mudflat. It is a beautiful sight. Morjim Beach and the mudflat can also be seen from the heights of Chapora Fort. It is a beautiful sight. Seagulls are rather easy to photograph. Since they hang out on the beach and on mudflats all through the day, one can photograph them at different times of the day and compare the results.
Fishin g at Morjim
Originally the village of Morjim was and is still a fishing village, though tourism and its related activities are taking more prime importance. One can catch sight of plenty of wooden fishing boats tucked along the shore line. Morjim is a fisher folk village, so you will find many enthusiasts interesting in line fishing too. Fishing spots are there along the Morjim beach as well at the estuary of the Chapora River.
Mandrem Beach
Compared to Morjim and Ashvem, Mandrem beach is the most captivating beach among the three. However, during high tide, access to the beach is difficult. So, hoteliers around the area have constructed a makeshift natural bamboo bridge to reach the beach. The bamboo bridge is cute and a must see, must visit thing. Mandrem beach is situated after the Ashvem beach and before the Arambol Beach. It is a continuation of the Ashvem beach and very similar to it. While staying and making your base at Morjim Hermitage rooms, it is easy to visit all these three extreme beaches of North Goa that is Morjim, Ashvem and Mandrem beach.
